 Mary's Story

mary.jpgOne cold October evening, this seven pound shih-tzu was dumped out front of an employee's house. She scratched at the door, somehow knowing it was the right house to go to. Her jaw is broken, she is missing an eye, and she has about four punctures around her neck from a dog bite. She has almost no hair, and bad teeth.

That night, she enjoyed playing with the dogs in the house, went to the bathroom fine, and eats just fine, even with her jaw hanging loose. She was brought into the shelter, cleaned up, shaved, and put on antibiotics.

We are currently raising funds for her surgery. She needs a complete eye removal as well as her jaw wired - along with a spay and dental.

We have scheduled her for surgery, and are still raising funds! If you would like to donate, there are several ways: Follow the link on our page to "Donate Now", you may donate over the phone with visa or mastercard, or send a check, ATTN: Mary's Fund.

11/03/09 Update

The good news: Mary went in for surgery this morning to repair her jaw and fix her teeth.  After being under for five hours, she is resting comfortably and getting great care from our very own vet technician.  The bad news:  Our original estimate of $1,500.00 has been surpassed due to the extensive injuries to Mary's jaw.  The bill from the Dental surgeon came in just short of $5,000.00, and Mary still needs to get healthy so we can repair her missing eye and have her spayed.  The outpouring of donations have been amazing, our thanks to everyone who has generously donated to our shelter for Mary. Your contributions are truly appreciated.

11/20/09 Update

We have just scheduled Mary for her spay and removal of her eye. We are uncertain of the expected cost for her other surgeries, so we are still asking for donations at this time.

12/31/09 Update

Her eye has been stiched up, and she is now spayed. January 4th she will be going in to see if she is ready for the splints to be taken out, and if she needs anything else for her jaw. She is so sweet and so happy! As you may know, she came to us at 7 lbs. She now weighs in at 11 lbs! Her hair is coming back very thick, and she is very happy! Overall, she is an outstanding dog, we are so glad she hs safe and in good shape now.
